Smarta Switch was founded in 2015 by Joedy Lawrence, who already had decades behind him in the utilities industry, having co-founded Plymouth's own IU Energy. He'd watched local businesses overpay year after year, simply because nobody ever re-quoted their contracts, and he set out to put that right.
The mission was simple, and it hasn't shifted since. Get business owners the most competitive deals across the whole market on Business Energy, Business Water, Ultrafast Broadband, Merchant Services and Business Mobile, and not stop until we've saved them at least £1,000.
That's over 25 years in the industry and a decade building the Smarta name. We're whole of market, so we're not tied to any one supplier, and we're free to the customer because we're paid by the supplier, not by you. We're based at 80-84 Union Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth, and we look after businesses right across Devon and Cornwall.
The brand has grown so far that Joedy's son Joe took it to Australia in 2026, run by the next generation of the family. Same values, same playbook, separate company.
